Wine, regardless of price, is something to share with friends, ease the daily grind, and make life more enjoyable. Red Slate provides an ideal location to taste quality wine, learn about its history, buy a few bottles, or host a private party.
Here at Red Slate we like to get to know our clients and their palates. We tend to custom order wine rather than stocking a large inventory. We believe in finding the best wine for you, not just selling excess inventory. Please contact us about any specific wines you’re searching for or if you would like our assistance selecting wines for your personal collection.

Spring - April 18 – By April I’m tired of heavy food and big reds. I’m ready for fresh veggies and lighter wines. Join me for a fun evening of wines give me that feeling of Spring and help relieve the monotony of winter. We’ll taste goodies like Gruner Veltliner, Trousseau, Sparkling, and more! $25 per person, reservations required.
Decanted Champagne Comparison -May 2nd -All Night Long - The first of the Riedel events tackles the controversial practice of decanting champagne. All night we’ll be pouring Demarne Frison Goustan Brut Nature, you’ll get 2 tastes of this wine. One taste will be from the bottle, the other from the decanter. Judge for yourself whether decanting champagne is something you want to do at home. $14 for the 2 pours!
Argyle at Ambonnay! May 9th – 5-7pm - Ambonnay is joining in on the fun of Argyle’s PDX Bubbles week. From 5-7pm we’ll be pouring from Magnums! Come out and enjoy Argyle Blanc de Blancs 2006 and Knudsen Vineyard 2006, 1 oz of both wines for $5! Plus we’ll have the 2009 Knudsen available by the glass all week.
Troublemakers – May 16th – 6:30pm - As one who considers himself to be part of a loose club of people that don’t follow rules very well, troublemakers, anarchists, shit disturbers, rebels, and young turks, I wanted to show off the wines made be kindred spirits. During this tasting we’ll taste, discuss, and hopefully enjoy wines made by these agitators. Some of the wines push limits of wine making while others focus on tradition and forgotten practices. Its going to be an awesome night, the full list isn’t set yet but we’ll enjoy wines from the following: Dunn, Terre Nere, Radikon, Luyt, and more! $35 per person, reservations required. This is a Riedel focused event.
Rhone All Stars - May 23rd – 7pm – This is the next in my series of tasting where we pull corks from top producers. I decided to focus on the Rhone and pull wines from many of the best. During this tasting we’ll enjoy the following wines: Chave Hermitage 1992, Alain Voge Cornas Les Vieilles Fontaines 1996, Guigal Cote Rotie Chateau Ampuis 2009, Allemande Cornas Reynard 2009, Chateau Beaucastel 2007, Vieux Telegraphe Le Crau 2007, Clos des Papes 2009, Pierre Usseglio Reserve des 2 Freres Chateauneuf du Pape 2009. This is an amazing opportunity to taste wines from some of the best in the Rhone, don’t miss it! $125 per person, credit card required to hold reservations. This is a Riedel focused event.
Killer Whites – May 30th - 6:30pm - The final Riedel event, we’re breaking more rules and decanting whites! Not just any old whites though, we’re going to crack open some AWESOME whites. Seriously, I love white wine and I’m throwing open the cellar because I want to drink some mind blowing wines! Join me for a line up whites that deserve to be decanted because they have so much going for them. Full line up is still in the works but we’ll definitely open wines from FX Pichler, A. Christmann, as well as wines from Burgundy, Chablis, Rhone, Jura, and more. $45 per person, reservations required.
